West Virginia offensive coordinator Jeff Mullen has put the Mountaineers on the recruiting radar of Jewone Snow, an acclaimed linebacker from McKinley High School, in Canton, Ohio. Snow, holder of scholarship offers from the likes of Purdue, Cincinnati, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State and Pitt, is slated to take an official visit to WVU this Saturday, when the Mountaineers welcome in Marshall.
“I’ll be going to West Virginia Saturday morning,” he told EerSports.com on Thursday night. “I like the coaches. I like their offense. I like that they have a lot of athletes. I like that it’s not too far from home.
“I just want to see all that Morgantown has to offer.”
Snow said he has been on two previous unofficial visits to WVU, both coming last spring. “The fans from WVU treat their players like they’re in the NFL,” he said.
ESPN Scouts Inc. rated Snow the No. 23 overall inside linebacker for the 2010 recruiting class and graded the 6-foot-4, 234-pound prep standout with a 77. The site also reports Snow was recruited by Penn State and Maryland.
Snow is averaging over 10 tackles a game for McKinley (4-3) and also has one interception on the year.
“I’m getting a lot of interest from a lot of schools all over the country.”
WVU is the only other official visit Snow has planned at this time; he’s already been to visit Purdue. All of the schools who offered Snow “are kind of even” in getting a verbal commitment from him.
After his trip to Morgantown, Snow said he plans to take one more official visit. “I’m most likely going to plan one more, I just don’t know where I’m going to take that,” he said, adding he was not sure when he will announce his commitment.
Mullen has been staying on the trail for Snow throughout this fall. “I’ve been talking to him maybe like twice a week.”
Snow said what attracted Mullen and the Mountaineers to recruit him so tirelessly was his “size and how good I move for my size and my physicality. I always have a knack for the ball and I make plays.”
Competing for the starting middle linebacker job is something Snow said WVU’s staff pitched to him. “Same as Purdue,” he said.
